TIMES BATU, JAKARTA – The local government of Banyuwangi has sent some proposal to Unesco to make Ijen Geopark as one Unesco Global Geopark. And this is just one step away to get their approval. The assessor team had landed in Banyuwangi on Thursday (9/6/2022) to check the place by themselves.
"There will be two assessors that will check and evaluate Ijen Geopark. They will be in this city for 5 days starting from when the day they were landed," the Bappeda of Banyuwangi, Suyanto Waspo Tonda said on Wednesday (7/6/20220).
The assessor team will check the availability of geosite, biosite, and culturalsite of the area, either those in Banyuwangi or Bondowoso. All those sites has been declared and registered on the list when the send the proposal to Unesco.
Some of the cultural site will include the Kemiren Cultural Village and Blambangan Museum. Meanwhile the biosite will look around Alas Purwo area. The captivating Plengkung beach and Parang Ireng will be one of the geosite the assessor check.
The assessor will give their evaluation and assessment right after the finish their job. "If they think it's worth it, the recommendation for Ijen Geopark to be one of Unesco Global Geopark will be handed to Unesco by September this year," Suyanto ended. (*)
